If there is a Naples neighborhood where tourists do not set foot, this is Scampia. Located on the outskirts of the city, between two highways, flooded with a poor population that piles up very quickly in buildings constructed after the earthquake of 80, controlled by the Camorra, is benign in truth, no appeal.
Here we realized the meeting of young siblings (40 years and less) of RELEM. At the invitation of his brother J. Huiteau, Director General of RELEM, 32 brothers responded. They came from Spain, Portugal, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Egypt, Lebanon and Italy. Were also present throughout the week the Brothers Jesus Miguel Zamora, the new Visitor ARLEP, and Jean Paul Aleth, Visitor of France. Brothers Alvaro, Superior General and Donato Petti, Visitor 's Italy, honored us with their presence.
A Scampia, a community of three blood brothers, an educational center with various social activities. One of our group stayed in the center, the other shared community life in a tower in a religious house, not far from the center. These simple conditions of life, but difficult because of the heat, have lived with very good mood thanks to the availability of community and the mothers of the neighborhood that lend themselves to rejoice with a delicious meal.
The objectives of 'meeting aims at a mutual acquaintance, living in front of the essential elements of our vocation, a shared experience of God, the joy of living among brothers in the presence of the poor.
The aspect that the brothers have made us discover Scampia and the program well prepared by a 'team of young brothers have achieved these goals. Programming is built around these three words: see, discern, realize. Every day a picture of the origins Lasallian has fueled our own thinking and helped us to create and relive the experience of the Institute: John Baptist de La Salle (see ourselves) Adriano Nyel (see the world around us) Nicholas Barré (discern), the first brothers (implemented).
The discovery tour of the district, the entertainment center with the boys. Directed by a religious community, the presentation of our districts and the time of exchange, silence, prayer, relaxation, allowed the group to feel progressively a community temporarily happy, rich in its diversity and able to overcome the obstacles linguistic and cultural. We plant a tree: a symbol of our ideal of living together as brothers of the same generation despite our different geographic and cultural origins.
one participant expressed the same idea: "I'm amazed. I felt in communion with the different brothers, and we had a 'close friendship and in some special way. This leads me to continue to be a brother in the community and to implement projects with the younger brothers of RELEM.
We must now wait until the fruits ripen. These will occur with new opportunities to meet and common life ; Participate in projects under the aegis of RELEM, meet again in two or three years, become more open to what they do with some other districts with fewer resources. The gospel was the last day of the Transfiguration. During several days Scampia was our Tabor. Descend to the plane of our everyday life with the enthusiasm and the joy of our vocation as Brothers.
